We are a young couple
who shear fiber animals for the better part of each year. Ian, the one of us
who does the actual shearing, completed his beginner as well as an advanced
shearing course in the spring of 2004. Much more useful than courses though, Ian
also completed a year long apprenticeship with Dave Carlson.
Miranda joined the
team in the summer of 2007. She is who will likely answer your emails, and ensure that everyone is booked in and it's all organized! We love
traveling the country together, leaving a path of contented animals in our trail. Also just a little tidbit for you, we are vegetarians and are striving to become vegan. We're still working on how to be "vegan shearers" and we're not quite sure how it all fits together yet.
The newest addition to the crew is our little Celia! Our beautiful baby girl was born on July 4th, 2010, at home in a warm tub of water. She is (of course) the most beautiful, smartest, funniest, cutest and all around best little being to ever enter this earth.
We both grew up on
small farms, and small farms are our favorites. Of course, we tackle
many large flocks as well. (Though nothing like those Kiwis…) We
also understand about hand spinners needs and can take care to shear off that
perfect fleece/fiber.
Many people will ask us…. “So
how on earth did you get into shearing??” Well… Someone once asked Ian if he “ever
thought of shearin’ sheep?” He answered “Um…. no….?” And there it all began.
